|
|
Hello,
I am new to this website, I hope I am posting this in the correct place.
Yesterday I found my first Xanthogramma pedissequum at Attenborough Nature Reserve (just south west of Nottingham). I was hoping to find out about the other records for this sp. as shown on the map for South Notts in particular SK52. Is there a way to access those details please?

Hello Richard and welcome to the HRS website,
I think the easiest way to interrogate records is to use the NBN Gateway at :http://www.searchnbn.net/
Search for the species
Use the interactive grid map facility
Select the records
Query the records
This should provide dates and maps of sites.
You have to play around a bit with the interactive stuff, but it is reasonably intuitive. _________________ Nigel Jones

Thank you Nigel,
I have not used the NBN before, what a fantastic resource!
Their databases do not contain any records of Xanthogramma pedissequum on my patch.
I am puzzled though because if I use my postcode to 'List of hoverflies for your postcode' on the home page of this site ie the HRS site, then Xanthogramma pedissequum is listed for my postcode despite there being no record for it on the NBN for my post code.

Richard,
The HRS records are more up to date than the NBN dataset. Stuart (our web-master) uploads new records regularly, whilst the NBN receives all our new data much less frequently. So the records for your patch may be recent ones - hover over the dots on the HRS map and a year for the record usually displays.
Best wishes

It is possible to find out further details of the records linked with the year dots on the HRS map ?

Richard,
I can't speak for the scheme, but Stuart may be able to provide details, but only Stuart can answer that question. Try emailing him via the web site administrator contact on this site. _________________ Nigel Jones

Hi all
Briam Wetton is the local recorder and has done a lot of recording at Attenborough NR. He has recently published a "hoverflies of Notts" - cannot remember where but suggest you google.
The HRS data on NBN was updated in 2005 I think - it is on the list of jobs!
Regards

Thank you very much for enlightening us on the subject because sometimes we are lost in all these questions. |
