Here are some records for april. Please contact for photos or further information:


1) Cowden Bog (NT 3667) 7th April
Habitat: Salix species, streamside and at wood edge. In arable area.

Cheilosia grossa 1 male sunning on fencepost
Melangyna lasiophthalma - 3 on willow flowers
Parasyrphus punctulatus male on willow flower
Syrphus torvus male on willow flower
Eristalis tenax - female on willow flower



2) Kinchie Burn/ Pencaitland Railway Walk (NT 451 667) 10th April
Habitat: Streamside Salix spp.

Melangyna lasiophthalma Willow flowers
Eristalis species Willow flowers
Cheilosia species Lesser Celandine



3) Butterdean Wood (NT4572) 12th April
Habitat: Deciduous woodland with some conifer plantation.

Melangyna lasiophthalma abundant. Mostly sunning on tree trunks



4) Kinchie Burn (NT4366) 15th April
Habitat: Streamside. Lesser Celandine flowers.

Cheilosia grossa - female
Cheilosia pagana (possibly)



5) Danskine (NT5667) 16th April
Habitat: Mature woodland with some conifers.

Melangyna lasiophthalma - several sunning



6) Butterdean Wood (NT4572) 20th April
Habitat: Deciduous woodland with some conifer plantation.

Parasyrphus punctulatus - male on a sallow
Cheilosia spp. on a sallow



7) Keith Water (NT451 639) 22nd April
Habitat: Streamside bog with mature alders, sallow.

Eristalis intricarius on sallow



Cool Butterdean Wood (NT4572) 27th April
Habitat: Deciduous woodland with some conifer plantation.

Criorhina ranunculi female on sallow.
