Date - 20/06/2013
Grid ref - NZ44284216
Location - Horden
VC - 66
Recorder - John Bridges
Verified by - Chris Raper (IRecord submission)
Single specimen noted

It would appear that the last records of this species (according to NBN Gateway) was at two locations a few miles away in 1899 and 1919
Is that possible??? or is it down to lack of records being submitted??

Dear John

Thanks for this - all records most helpful.

I'd be unsurprised by low density of records in northern England as the heaviest recorder pressure is south of a line between the Humber and the Dee. You can get a feeling for recorder effort from tow of the maps on the scheme:

http://www.hoverfly.org.uk/portal.php?id=2&scol=HFF0000&bkgrd=1&ecol=H0000FF&page=4

http://www.hoverfly.org.uk/portal.php?id=3&scol=HFF0000&bkgrd=1&ecol=H0000FF&page=4

We have a relatively small number of very active recorders - 21 people have contributed around 50% of the data to the scheme (around 350,000 out of 750,000. We are always trying to encourage more recording - these days there are quite a few active photographers.

I'll put this record on the spreadsheet I compile from websites - it will probably be uploaded in early January 2014 as we do most of the data manipulation in the winter.

Regards

Roger
