The following are all from the garden - Grid ref SD323387 - all but the last two are from 26/07/14, the last two are from 27/07/14 - our garden has been alive with hoverflies this last week or two.

I've added my attempts at ID's

Myathropa florea

Episyrphus balteatus

Sphaerophoria species - bit of a pale abdomen, fungal infection maybe? I saw one similar a couple of days later too.

Syritta pipiens

Syrphus species?

Merodon equestris?

Eristalis species

& from 27th July - Sphaerophoria species

& another Eristalis

Hi Cliff

Useful shots here

The male Sphaerophoria is scripta - a hot weather specimen.

The Syrphus is ribesii - it is a female with completely orange hind femur

The first Eristalis is tenax. I cannot to the other one with certainty.

Good stuff

Thanks

Roger

I should also have mentioned that the Merodon was Eristalis intricarius
