Hi,
I'm new to the forum, and am hoping someone may be able to help I.D. a species of hoverfly for me please? It was photographed in my garden this morning (28/05/16), and looks like a species of Criorhina. C. berberina and C. floccosa are the obvious candidates, but I'm really struggling to distinguish one from the other! Any help would be deeply appreciated.
Thank you.

Having examined the venation on the wings of the hoverfly above, I believe it's not a species of Criorhina, but is most likely Merodon equestris. The hoverfly above doesn't have an elongate face either which would also rule out a species of Criorhina.

Thank you Jaybee for the ID.
I'm residing in the Republic of Ireland Roger, so am not sure whether you record sightings outside of the U.K.? However, in the event that you do, the Irish Grid Reference is as follows: N 79155, 14777 (Newbridge, Co.Kildare).
Many thanks again.
