|
|
Hello everyone,
I wish to present hoverflies but I would put them in the order Diptera.
I would first like to say how is the number of Diptera in the world, England and Europe.
Does anyone have such accurate data or can anyone tell me where to look?
Thank you in advance for your answers. _________________ PIERRE

Dear Pierre
As far as I can recall, the figures are
World >6,000 species - not that easy because the taxonomy is being reorganised through modern DNA analysis. It is probably a lower level than the absolute number as there are a lot of Copestylum still to be described.
Europe around 820 species - I cannot remember absolute figure.
UK & Ireland - 284 species |

Great answer. I didn't realise there were that many in the UK. Is there a list anywhere of all the species that we have in the UK?
