|
|
This is my first post.
I have several batches of photos of examples of this hoverfly, suggesting several individuals with subtle variations.
All have 4 yellow bands, the one on tergite one is broken, and on some specimens it forms an L shape around the scutellum.
The other bands are slightly chevron shaped, pointing forwards a bit in the middle, with an even width. They also point forward at the edges, then a downward tick at the lateral margin. Yellow tip to abdomen.
Face yellow, with narrow black line on top of frons, and orange where antenna attched.
Legs basically yellow, but tarsus dark.
I cannot use the key successfully in reference British Hoverflies because some points are too tricky without a hand lens.
I cannot load photos - file size too large (which it isn't!)

Hi
Can you post the pictures somewhere else and provide a link? Flicker, or somewhere like that...

Ian, it seems the difficulties are mounting.
I have nowhere else I can post things to easily.
I have only used Flickr once, but without a broadband connection, it is something I want to avoid.
Is there a problem loading pictures - presumably it will be fixed at some time, so it may have to wait until then.

Hi
You could join the UK-Hoverflies Yahoo group, where you should have no problem making an album in which to post your pictures. There are plenty of people on there to give you an ID.

I am sure that this site will get sorted before long and be back to its best! Trouble at this time of year is...everyone is out with their net!
Hope you have success.
