British Red Data Books: 2. Insects. Shirt, D.B. (ed.), 1987. xliv + 402 pages.
Published by the Nature Conservancy Council, Peterborough and now distributed by JNCC via the Natural History Book Service.
Covers the species considered to be most endangered in many groups of insects including the better known families of Diptera. 56 species of hoverfly are listed (10 Endangered, 17 Vulnerable and 29 Rare). Full data sheets are only given for Endangered and Vulnerable Diptera, the species classed as "Rare" are merely listed.
Now rather out of date and some of the categorisations now seem a little odd in the light of more recent knowledge, but the data sheets for the Endangered and Rare species remain useful |
