I am comfortable with all of these including the two where specimens have been retained and checked
Warm, muggy day with less wind than the rest of the week (a relative statement as it was still blowing hard)
Result as is often the case on these warm days - very few hovers around.

Hi John

That is great. The Melanostoma is almost certainly scalare but one of those rather intermediate ones that causes problems and might be something else within the genus. But for recording purposes - yes M. scalare. The Pipiza looks fine to me - the only one with quite such fat hind femora
