Species account from Provisional atlas of British hoverflies, Ball & Morris, 2000.
Dasysyrphus hilaris (Zetterstedt, 1843)
Biology: The taxonomic status of this species is unclear. Although it may be a pale-faced variety of D. venustus, (see discussion in Stubbs & Falk, 1983), a male specimen has been found recently in Scotland by Philip Entwistle which has genitalia distinct from either D. venustus or D. friuliensis, and its specific status may therefore be justified (Entwistle, 1995; Stubbs, 1996)
Distribution: Specimens attributed to this taxon have been found at widely scattered localities from southern England to the Scottish Highlands |
