1 & 2 - Male Sphaerophoria scripta - wing length considerably shorter than body length - pretty much the only Sphaerophoria that can be took to species level
3 - Female Meliscaeva auricollis

Do you have details of each image Andrew?
Date, grid reference, flower etc all help to make them useful records. |

Andrew there is a brilliant Facebook group that is full of friendly, helpful people including Roger Morris (co-author of Britains Hoverflies)
You can upload images from your hard drive into a post for people to see and help with ID.
If making a post please try to add date taken, grid reference, flower etc etc as Roger extracts data from the group for the recording scheme.

Thank you, I have joined the Facebook group. Thank you for the very quick IDs. Is it better to post in the Facebook group than here? or is it much the same usefulness?
The female Eupeodes corollae (assuming that ID is correct) was on white runner bean flowers, 2015-07-15, grid 52.487649, -2.152625
The male Syritta pipiens are the same date, grid 52.487604, -2.152578 and the same grid reference but I do not know what the flowers are. There were 3 or 4 flying around.
The sphaeroria scripta male was on a clump of white and pink daisies (ornamental rather than wild), 2015-07-18, grid 52.487682, -2.152600
The female Meliscaeva auricollis was 2015-07-18, grid 52.487735, -2.152498 on another potentilla bush.
The female Syritta pipiens was on the same clump of white and pink daisies 2015-07-18, grid 52.487682, -2.152600. It seems to attract lots of hoverflies consistently.
many thanks!

I think it is for you Andrew - easier to upload images at the very least.
I'm pretty much the only one who posts here but I have a lot of records each day. Roger only pops in when I email him to say I have made a post.
I'm on the FB group and make the occasional post there.
It is the ideal place for getting rapid and informative responses. |

Hi Andrew
I try to monitor this site but I fear that the Facebook group has pretty well swamped me - so I tend to concentrate on that for much of the time. You will certainly get a response on FB within a day, either from me or from co-organisers Ian Andrews and Joan Childs |

Maybe pictures can help him better recognize the plant. Why not post some |

Facebook is by far the better medium. I rarely get time to visit the HRS site these days as FB take up an awful lot of my spare time |
